His jail time has been repeatedly extended, though his supporters stress he has never harmed anyone outside jail and has never taken a life.īut he has earned his colourful reputation over the last 40 years. Since then he has been free for only two short periods, in 19, for a total of four months. In 1974, aged 22, he was jailed for seven years for robbing a post office. He was born Michael Gordon Peterson but in 1989 was an unlicensed boxer and took the name Charles Bronson – the star of movie Death Wish. In his latest "rumble" Bronson - a Spurs fan - covered himself in butter to attack 12 prison officers because Arsenal won the FA Cup. Charles Bronson is one of the most notorious inmates in Britain, having taken hostages in 10 sieges, attacked 30 officers and caused £500,000 of damage in rooftop protests. ![]()
